UBEC and Gates Foundation Explore Partnership to Boost Nigeria’s Basic Education

On February 11, 2025, the Executive Secretary, Aisha Garba, received the representatives from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in her office, to explore collaborative efforts aimed at enhancing basic education in Nigeria. The discussions centered around potential partnerships involving grants and technical support to strengthen educational initiatives across the country.

A key focus of the meeting was the provision of technical assistance by the Gates Foundation, particularly in capacity building for State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs).

Additionally, the Gates Foundation expressed interest in contributing to strategic deliveries under the anticipated World Bank Hope Education Project, which will be co-implemented by UBEC. This collaboration is expected to leverage the Foundation’s expertise and resources to bolster the project’s impact at scale.

The meeting underscored the Executive Secretary’s commitment to fostering collaborations across Development Partners, the Organised Private Sector and Foundations to address critical gaps affecting basic education service delivery in Nigeria.
