New UBEC Executive Secretary Hajiya Aisha Garba Visits Abuja Headquarters to Kickstart Visionary Leadership in Basic Education Reform

Hajiya Aisha Garba, the newly appointed Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), made her inaugural familiarization visit to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on December 20, 2024. Garba, an international development specialist with over 24 years of experience in transformative education programmes, was appointed by President Bola Tinubu to lead UBEC’s efforts in advancing the vision of providing quality education and ensuring that Nigerian children become globally competitive.

As a senior education specialist at the World Bank, Garba has successfully implemented impactful educational reforms across Nigeria, Ghana, Somalia, Kenya, the USA, and the UK. Her extensive expertise includes managing education programmes in fragile and conflict-affected settings, working with diverse stakeholders to deliver sustainable development outcomes.

During her visit, Garba emphasized the need for strategic collaboration with UBEC staff to align ongoing initiatives, aiming to meet global education standards. Her leadership is expected to harness her wealth of experience and networks to drive innovative solutions in Nigeria’s basic education sector.

Dr. Danjuma hails from Bauchi State. He obtained M.Sc Public Administration and Policy Analysis from the University of Abuja, MBA form Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and Ph.D Economics from the Loughborough University, UK.
