As part of efforts put in place to address incidence of building collapses and guarantee the quality of the infrastructure projects delivered within the basic education sub-sector in the States and FCT, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) management, led by Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, has been working to establish new partnerships and strengthen existing ones with key organizations.
UBEC is partnering with Controls which is a United Kingdom and Italy-based manufacturer of Equipment and Tools for the construction industry and Instituto Meccanica dei Materiali (IMM) based in Switzerland with state-of-the-art laboratories and equipment for testing materials for construction industries alongside their partner, Tectonics ltd based in Nigeria and Ghana which serves as representatives of Controls and IMM in Nigeria and West Africa were in the Commission on 30th October,2024 on a courtesy visit to UBEC and also to appreciate the Commission on earlier engagement with them.
Dr. Hamid Bobboyi and other UBEC Management Staff members welcomed the team, which included Michel Di Tommaso (IMM), Andrea Di Lovio (Control), Michel Salvianti (IMM), and Engr. Aisha Kawu (Tectonics), at the Commission’s Board Room. Since more than half of the UBE intervention funds go toward infrastructure development, the Executive Secretary underlined the significance of this type of cooperation and partnership with such organizations, particularly in the areas of guaranteeing quality in the delivery of infrastructure projects in basic education.
Through the partnership with the organizations, the Commission would set up mobile labs equipped with essential tools to conduct on-site quality assessments at project locations throughout the States and FCT. The establishment of mobile laboratories in each of the nation’s six geo-political zones will mark the beginning of the partnership’s first phase. During the visit, the training component and its sustainability were also equally discussed.
