JICA Consultants Pay Courtesy Visit to UBEC Headquarters

On the 17th of September, 2024, a delegation of consultants from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) paid a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in Abuja. The visit aimed to foster collaboration between JICA and UBEC to further strengthen Nigeria’s basic education sector.

The delegation was warmly received by the Executive Secretary (Technical) of UBEC, Professor Bala Zakari, alongside members of the UBEC Management team. During the meeting, the parties discussed potential areas of cooperation, with a particular focus on leveraging JICA’s expertise in educational development to enhance ongoing projects and initiatives under UBEC’s mandate.

Professor Zakari expressed gratitude for JICA’s continued interest in supporting Nigeria’s education system, highlighting the importance of international partnerships in achieving universal access to quality education. He outlined UBEC’s current initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, teacher training, and educational technology in basic education, emphasizing that education for all is a collective responsibility.

The JICA consultants, in turn, reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Nigeria’s education agenda, sharing insights into successful projects implemented in other developing countries and discussing how similar approaches could be tailored to Nigeria’s unique educational landscape.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to ensuring that every Nigerian child has access to the educational resources they need to thrive, reinforcing the idea that “Education for all is the responsibility of all.”
